Brinda's night in Galway

B:

this is a sculpture in Galway city.
Its right near the train station in Eyre square.

I went to a really cool restaurant that had fish and chips.

Fun fact: The name chips in Ireland means french fries. You call chips crisps.

Taaffes is a bar in Galway City. We accidentally missed the train, and then we had to go home at 10:30. I listened to some traditional Irish music in Taaffes. Some of the instruments were two banjos, Uilleann pipes, and an accordion.

Fun fact: In Ireland, songs is where you sing, and tunes is where you play and don't sing.

And another fun fact: Bars in Ireland are called pubs.

Athenry

A:

I thought I'd post some more general pictures of Athenry. The kids aren't really into context.

Here is Brinda by a road sign. She's impressed with the two languages. We've learned a little Irish, and I think that's as far as we're going. Athenry means the Ford of the King (baile means town). The town, with the castle, priory and church, was built in the 13th century, when people had no use for sidewalks.

We haven't been in the Norman castle yet. It will open around St. Patrick's Day, apparently.

Here's the house from the front garden.

On our way back from the Heritage Center

N:

This is the Heritage Center in Athenry. There was lots of cool stuff inside, like Athenry a long time ago. There is still 70% of the wall around Athenry left.

There was lots of graves. The dungeon was VERY VERY creepy.

Castle!

There is a castle in Athenry. And we went to it. There is a place in the castle were there is a lot of old stuff, like helmets and swords and real armor.

This is Brinda dressed like an Athenry knight.

This is a part of the real castle wall. It was made 800 years ago.

Here is Banba House

B:

This is my first blog post from Ireland. We're in Galway, Athenry. We arrived about 10 o'clock and we got a tour of the house.

This is my bedroom. I like my stripes on my bed. I share it with my cousin Eloise.

This is the yard that we play in. In Ireland, it's called a garden, not a yard. I brought my hula hoops. I can hula hoop, and you can play tag. There's tiny rocks for a sidewalk. And there's a big driveway filled with tiny rocks.

This is the family room. There are three couches in here. You can only see one of them, though. There's a tv that doesn't work.

Being in Ireland is kind of tiring, but it's kind of exciting too. And interesting. I'm going to see a castle on the third day of the third month in 2016.

Snow Day

N:

This is me and Tucker. We played outside while it was really really snowy. Tucker got his boot stuck in the snow, and we had to dig it out.

I weared skiing goggles to keep the snow out of my eyes. It didn't work very well because they fogged up though. We went inside and had hot cocoa.
